Updating metadata without re-encoding video

Save titles, descriptions and artwork in a supported MP4/M4V file.

Use the metadata-update presets when a supported MP4/M4V file already contains the video and audio you want. You can change information such as the title, description and artwork without running another video encode.

Update an existing file

  1. Back up the file before its first edit.
  2. Add it to iFlicks and select it.
  3. Review the metadata. Correct any unwanted online match, or load existing metadata from the file.
  4. Choose Update Metadata. Choose Update Metadata and Rename if you also intend to rename the file.
  5. Start processing to write the changes.
  6. Reopen the result and check the updated fields in your target application.

Editing a field in iFlicks is preparation; processing writes the intended changes. This workflow can modify the existing file, so it should not be treated as creating an automatic backup.

When to choose a different preset

Use a conversion preset when changing video, audio or subtitle tracks. An MKV file also needs an appropriate container-conversion workflow before it can be treated as an MP4/M4V metadata update.

If streaming optimization is enabled, the file may still need a full rewrite after the metadata change. That extra disk activity is different from re-encoding video. A library application may also require a metadata refresh before showing the saved changes.
