iFlicks prepares the video file and its embedded metadata. Plex separately scans that file, identifies it and chooses which information to display.
Prepare and organize the files
- Process a sample movie or episode in iFlicks and verify its metadata.
- Put the finished file in a folder included in the appropriate Plex library.
- Keep movies and TV shows in separate library locations.
- Follow Plex's filename and folder conventions.
For example, a movie can use Movies/Example Movie (2020)/Example Movie (2020).m4v. A season-based episode can use TV Shows/Example Show (2020)/Season 02/Example Show (2020) - s02e05.m4v. Use the actual title, year and episode numbering.
Choose the metadata preference
For a Plex Movie library, edit its advanced settings and review Prefer local metadata if you want embedded tags to take priority. Use local assets is a separate option for local artwork. Available controls depend on the library's agent and type; consult Plex's documentation for that setup.
After changing a file, scan the library to discover new content and refresh the affected item's metadata when necessary. If Plex still shows something different, check its match and any manually edited or locked fields. Embedded metadata does not guarantee that every field will be used by every Plex library.
For series mismatches, compare the episode order selected in Plex with the numbering used by your files.
