Using embedded and external subtitles

Add compatible text subtitles and understand the difference from burned-in subtitles.

iFlicks can work with subtitle tracks already embedded in a video and with separate subtitle files. Text formats include SubRip (.srt) and SubStation Alpha (.ass and .ssa).

Automatically find an external subtitle file

Place the subtitle next to the video and give it the same base name:

Example Movie.mkv
Example Movie.srt

Add the video to iFlicks, then inspect the tracks sidebar to check that the subtitle has been attached. Check its language and timing before processing.

Soft subtitles and burned-in subtitles

Soft subtitles are separate tracks that a compatible player can switch on or off. Burned-in subtitles are already part of the picture and cannot be removed as a separate track.

Bitmap subtitles such as DVD VobSub differ from text subtitles. Do not assume that a bitmap track can be converted to selectable text subtitles. Use a compatible text subtitle file when you need that result.

After processing, test the output in your intended player, including subtitle selection and synchronization.
